WHAT ARE MANGROVES GOOD FOR?
|
Mangroves are important for two major reasons; they provide habitat for animals and fish, and protects the riverbanks from erosion. If we keep cutting down mangroves, there will be fewer fish and numerous sea-foods will be off the menu.
If we continue to destroy these trees, the rivers will broaden, salt and fresh water will mix and the freshwater animals will die. Also, there is something that has just been discovered about mangroves; they store heaps of carbon! If we protect them, we are reducing global warming! |
